There's something very romantic about Ireland - not just the history and the folklore, but the Irish landscape itself. And the Mountains of Mourne are about as romantic as it gets, rising out of the Irish sea like a dark wave on the horizon. There's even a song about them. Written by Percy French in 1896, the lyrics celebrate the place 'Where the Mountains o' Mourne sweep down to the sea' - a line inspired by the view of the mountains from along the Irish coast.
This design shows the Mourne Mountains from the north. Situated in County Down on the north east coast, the Mournes include the highest mountain in Northern Ireland, Slieve Donard - famous for its gorse-carpeted slopes and heather moors. And at its base is the seaside town of Newcastle, surrounded by Donard Forest and the Tollymore Forest Park. So why not join Percy French and celebrate the sweeping Mountains o' Mourne with this stunning tea towel!
