The UK's first national park, the Peak District offers some of the most diverse landscapes in the country. From limestone gorges in steep valleys to moorland stretching for miles on end, the Peaks really do have everything that a rambler could possibly wish for. But it's the dramatic gritstone escarpments that dominate the eastern edge of the Peaks, drawing keen rock-climbers from all over the country.
These escarpments cut like wounds across the landscape, and Baslow Edge is one of the most impressive: gritstone boulders jutting out of the earth, jagged rocks strewn with purple heather. Stretched over more than a kilometre of hillside, Baslow offers beautiful views across the open moors. On a clear day, you can even see the summit of Kinder Scout.
