Robin Hood, the heroic outlaw cloaked in Lincoln Green, flashing among the trees of Sherwood Forest - there aren't many legends more famous than this. It was here in Sherwood that he spent his days with his band of Merry Men, 'stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.' And Sherwood is the perfect setting for legends like this to grow. With over a thousand acres of ancient oak-birch woodland, the forest is a sanctuary for all sorts of wildlife - outlaws and bandits included!
But there's one tree in particular that stands out among the rest: the magnificent Major Oak, estimated to be around 1000 years old. Oaks have been an English national symbol since around the sixteenth century, and the Major Oak is the oak par excellence - you don't really get more English than this! Not to mention the fact that it's trunk is a whopping ten metres wide. Legend has it that Robin hid from the Sherriff in this tree, shrouded up in the branches of its leafy canopy.
This design showcases this truly magnificent oak, voted Britain's favourite tree in 2002! This tea towel would make the perfect gift for tree-lovers and folklorists and everything in between.

Nottingham Major Oak
I ordered this towel along with quite a few others as they represented places to which I had connections.. My order arrived promptly, was well packed and the quality of the towels is excellent. I have washed them all before use and they didn’t even need ironing just folding up. An excellent buy.
