There’s a reason they’re called the Highlands! If you like hiking and rock-climbing, then this is the place to be, because Scotland is home to the tallest mountains in the UK, including 282 summits over 3,000 feet – which, if you ask me, sounds pretty high!
The tallest and most famous of all of these mountains is Beinn Nibheis, or Ben Nevis – a name which is often translated as ‘mountain with its head in the clouds’. It’s summit is a whopping 1,345 metres above sea level, making it the highest mountain not just in Scotland or the UK, but in the whole of the British Isles. The bulky, intimidating peak is in fact the collapsed dome of an ancient volcano which seems to have erupted some 350 million years ago. Pretty cool, right?
Not to mention the amazing views: on clear days, you can see as far as the hills of County Antrim in Northern Ireland. No wonder the summit attracts some 100,000 visitors a year!
This design shows Ben Nevis in all of its glory, towering above the surrounding landscape. Have you ever stood on the top of Britain’s tallest peak? Ever looked out from the summit across the Scottish Highlands? Then this tea towel is the perfect gift for you!
