Brighton is a city filled with vibrancy and quirkiness. Its winding shopping streets and thriving music scene make it a wonderful place live. Its sizeable LGBTQ+ community also makes it a hub for some of the UK’s largest and most joyous Pride celebrations each year.

Aside from its status as a cultural centre, Brighton is known as a wonderful seaside resort which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Yet the history and royal grandeur of its seaside pavilion and bandstand sit somewhat in contrast to the avant-garde persona of the city. Or perhaps not. The mostly Georgian and Victorian buildings that are dotted around its coastline provide a grand backdrop to the city’s beach. Its Royal Pavilion, built as a seaside pleasure palace for George IV who loved to visit the city, looks as if it would be better placed in India than on the British south coast. Its Victorian Bandstand, which provides the centre point for this design, has a similar mix of pomp and quirkiness. The structure that stands today is in fact a restoration of the original 1884 design which had fallen into disrepair after many years of neglect.
